History is a narrative account of the past. It is the story of changing human cultures, beliefs and lifestyles and helps to build up a sense about what could happen in the future. History is a journey across time and space. It leads us into another world, another age, in which people lived differently. The teaching of History should focus upon: inculcating a spirit of inquiry and discovery in students helping learners to build up a sense about what could happen in the future. the concept of plural representations and building a sense of historical diversity. encouraging students to imagine living in the past and relate to their experiences. making learners understand historical diversity and continuous process of development. providing learners an opportunity to better understand the world by comparing it with the past. making learners understand how the modern world has appeared over long centuries of development. enabling students to compare and contrast different time periods and how changes take place with time. Hence, it could be concluded that the teaching of History focuses upon the concept of plural representations and building a sense of historical diversity and ​encouraging students to imagine living in the past and relate to their experiences.
