The Neolithic Age is mainly characterised by the development of settled agriculture and the use of tools and weapons made of polished stones. Ground and polished stone tools- Neolithic Age is also known as the New Stone Age. Neolithic people were entirely dependent on tools and weapons made from ground and polished stone. The people used microlithic blades in addition to tools made of polished stones. They used stone hoes and digging sticks for digging the ground. The ring stones of 1-1/2 kg of weight were fixed at the ends of these digging sticks. They also used tools and weapons made of bone, found in Burzahom (Kashmir) and Chirand (Bihar). Domesticated barley and field pea- Agriculture triggered such a change in society and the way in which people lived that its development has been called the "Neolithic Revolution." The Neolithic people became a food producer from food gatherer. The people of Neolithic Age cultivated ragi, horse gram, pea, cotton, rice, wheat, and barley and hence were termed as food producers. Agriculture was the main activity and they cultivated different crops. Ploughs - Since agriculture became an important activity but there is no evidence of plough in the Neolithic Age. They used simple tools for agriculture. Bullock carts- There is no such evidence of bullock carts in Neolithic Age. Domestication of animals such as cattle, sheep, and goats was prevalent.
