Key Points Language skills are necessary for effective communication in any environment and to interact with others. It allows an individual to comprehend and produce language for proper and effective interpersonal communication. The four basic language skills are listening-speaking-reading-writing. Speaking refers to the cognitive and linguistic skill which helps the individual to communicate thought naturally or without effort. Listening refers to cognitive and linguistic skill which helps the individual to understand the thought of the speaker. Both listening and speaking skills are necessary to process information and respond appropriately. The whole point of language learning is to make the child a critical observer and thoughtful speaker. Thus, when the teacher asks questions based on a discussion she/he is trying to grade the students on how well students process information and respond appropriately. Confusion Points Activities that promote creative expression allow the participants to speak without/ with minimal cues. It doesn't follow the question-answer method with only one correct answer. The activities in which students are involved in responding in an appropriate tone, fluently and accurately are carried on by the teachers at a later stage when the learners know what and how they want to express themselves. It involves teachers correcting the learners at each step.
