Correct Answer Quantity A Solving for Quantity A: Amount of carbon in 1 kg of solution = 14% of volume = 14% of 1000 grams = 140 grams Amount of metal flux in 1 liter mixture = 1000 - 140 = 860 grams Let assume total volume of mixture = x grams, ⇒ 4% of x = 140 ⇒ 0.04x = 140 ⇒ x = 140/0.04 = 3500 grams Increment require in volume of metal flux = 3500 - 1000 = 2500 grams = 2.5 kg Solving for Quantity B: Poor quality sugar available in 250 kg of mixture = 28% of 250 = 0.28 × 250 = 70 kg Good quality sugar in 250 kg = 250 - 70 = 180 kg To make the mixture 95% of good quality sugar, Amount of final mixture of sugar = (70/5) × 100 = 1400 kg Quantity of good quality sugar need to be added = 1400 - 250 kg =1150 kg ∴ Quantity A < Quantity B
