The Climate Hazards and Vulnerability Atlas of India has been developed by the scientists at the Climate Research and Services (CRS) office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune. It is based on 13 extreme weather events and the risks they pose to the local population, livelihoods, and economy of each district. Important Points The section ‘Climate Hazard Map’ includes maps on dust storms, hailstorms, thunderstorms, fog, lightning, wind hazard, extreme rainfall events, drought, and cyclones. While lightning causes the highest casualty, floods, cyclones and fog cause huge economic and livelihood losses.
