The ratio of males and females in society A is 8 ∶ 5 Let the number of males and females be 8x and 5x respectively The ratio of males and females in society B is 7 ∶ 9 Let the number of males and females be 7y and 9y respectively ∴ According to question 8x + 7y = 52 ----(i) 9y – 5x = 21 ----(ii) Solving (i) and (ii) x = 3 and y = 4 ∴ Males in both the societies = 52 (given) Females in both the societies = 9y + 5x = 9 × 4 + 5 × 3 = 51 ∴ Required percentage = (52/51) × 100 = 101.96% or 102% ∴ The number of men in both societies is 102% of number of females in both the societies
