Formula Used∶ Sum to infinity of the G.P., S = a/(1 - r) Calculation∶ Initially the ball falls from a height of 100m, After striking the floor it rebounds and goes to a height of 4/5 (120) meters. Now, it falls from a height of 4/5 (120) meters and after rebounding again it goes to a height of 4/5 meters. This process is continued till the ball comes to rest. The total distance covered = 120 + 2 ⇒ 120 + 2 × ⇒ 120 + 960 ⇒ 1080 meters ∴ The total distance covered by a ball is 1080 meters.
